The contemporary folk sound of Los Angeles based and New England raised singer-songwriter Abby Litman is, among other attributes, thoroughly modern. Guests include Sara Watkins.

Folk rock singer-songwriter Abby Litman has released her latest EP, Steady. Its most recent single, "Lose Myself" has garnered praise from Music Mecca who acknowledged its "delicate sound and poignant lyrics," noting that she is "a positive force in the modern folk world." The aforementioned song touches upon themes of self-awareness and relationships. Litman describes the track as embodying the excitement and trepidation of starting a new relationship while remaining true to oneself.

Meanwhile, Folk Radio UK hailed Litman's work as "acoustically vibrant, lyrically poetic," drawing comparisons to Joni Mitchell. Americana Highways also praised her artistry, describing her song "Sequoia" as "artistically wrought" and highlighting its exploration of the joys and complexities of single life.

Litman's music is deeply influenced by her upbringing in Bethesda, Maryland, where she developed a love for artists like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. She studied at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, honing her craft and exploring the intersection of folk and pop.

Litman's new EP Steady follows her previous acclaimed EPs, Still On My Mind and On My Mind, both of which showcased her unique blend of California pop-folk-rock. On Litman's new EP she explores personal and universal themes, including her reflections on her family's Holocaust survival. She is joined on the record by special guest Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek fame.

Litman is also known for her role as the founder of Good Folk LA, a series of house concerts that spotlight emerging songwriters. She sees her music as a means of fostering connection and understanding within her community. In addition to her EP release, Litman is gearing up for a spring 2024 tour and will be performing at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. She continues to be a voice for introspection and empathy in the modern folk scene.

Litman's music pays homage to the rich tradition of folk while incorporating contemporary elements. Her sound, influenced by the legendary Laurel Canyon scene, evokes comparisons to iconic artists like Joni Mitchell and Judee Sill. Yet, Litman's work remains distinctly modern, reflecting her experiences and perspectives as a contemporary artist.

Abby Litman's music spotlights the enduring power of storytelling and the transformative potential of art. Through her evocative lyrics and soulful melodies, she invites listeners on a journey of introspection and discovery. With each new release, she reaffirms her place as a leading figure in the modern folk landscape, inspiring audiences with her heartfelt reflections and innovative approach to songwriting.
