Avenged Sevenfold’s new album Life Is But A Dream is a timeless work of art that blurs genres. Best served as a whole and consumed en masse to truly appreciate its musical breadth and sonic depth, it's the band's boldest statement and most revolutionary work to date.
Written and recorded over the span of four years, Life Is But A Dream was produced by Joe Barresi (Slipknot, Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age) and the band in Los Angeles and mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Jeff Buckley) in the Poconos, PA. Inspired by Albert Camus’ The Stranger, the album is a journey through an existential crisis and a very personal exploration into the meaning, purpose, and value of human existence with the anxiety of death always looming. Don’t be afraid to immerse yourself into all of it.
The song “Nobody” is described by the band as “6 minutes of tension, groove, and dynamics. The song twists and turns beyond conventional songwriting and leans in on discomfort before letting go.” The beautifully crafted stop-motion music video, directed by Chris Hopewell, is a powerful journey exploring the dichotomy between life and death, love, and war, and follows the main character through an existential crisis. There’s also the innocently named yet menacing “We Love You,” featuring a VR 360° video created by Ryan McKinnon using Unreal Engine. Then there’s the stunning album art painted by renowned artist and friend of the band, Wes Lang. As always with A7X, it’s more than just the music, it’s about the experience.
Avenged Sevenfold achieved worldwide success with their platinum 2005 breakthrough City Of Evil, which featured the popular single "Bat Country." The band quickly became known for their spectacular live shows and continues to sell out arenas worldwide. They are the only band to have headlined the Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting No. 1 on MTV's TRL. In 2006, they won the award for fan-voted Best New Artist category at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2007, their self-titled album Avenged Sevenfold debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative, Hard, and Rock Charts and No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. It spawned the singles "Almost Easy," "Afterlife," and "Scream," and has sold over a million units worldwide. In 2008, the band captured their magnificent stage show on Live In The LBC & Diamonds In The Rough, a live CD/DVD that has since been certified platinum.
