Bokassa unleash their latest LP All Out of Dreams, a whirlwind of ten tracks in 30 minutes that proves they’re definitely not all out of riffs. Guests include Lou Koller of Sick Of It All and Aaron Beam of Red Fang.
Norwegian power trio Bokassa refuse to be confined by a single genre, with a new record that ricochets between stoner metal, skatepunk, hardcore, and desert rock with effortless ease. From the thunderous riffage of "Bradford Death Squadron" to the frenetic energy of "No More Good Days," Bokassa remain fearless, never shying away from experimentation. In a mere 45 seconds, "Everyone Fails In The End" delivers an explosive burst of metallic hardcore, while "Gung Ho" transports listeners to the sun-soaked vistas of Queens Of The Stone Age-esque desert rock, complete with bottleneck riffs that ooze laid-back cool. But it's the anthemic title track that really steals the show, serving as a rallying cry for the disillusioned and dreamers alike.
Never content to tread familiar ground, Bokassa seems to thrive on sonic diversity. On All Out Of Dreams, the band continues to evolve, opting for a raw metallic sound that reaches back to the golden era of '90s metal and punk. The deliberate choice of a snare drum sound reminiscent of bands like Clutch and Helmet adds an edge to the album, while paying homage to the band's influences at the same time. And for the first time, the band enlists guest artists Lou Koller of NYHC legends Sick Of It All and Aaron Beam of Red Fang, adding an extra layer of gravitas to their already formidable lineup.
Since their inception in 2013, Bokassa has carved out a niche for themselves with their electrifying fusion of punk rock, hardcore, and metal. With four albums under their belt and an impressive resume that includes performances at Hellfest, Wacken, and Download, as well as tours with heavyweights like Metallica and Mastodon, they show no signs of slowing down.
