On The Above, Code Orange bring the fury and tower above the rest with a little help from the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan on the incendiary single, "Take Shape.”
Prepare to be swept up in a sonic storm as two-time Grammy-nominated rockers Code Orange return with their new album, The Above. Self-produced by the dynamic duo of Jami Morgan and Eric “Shade” Balderose, and engineered by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Big Black), The Above propels the band's creative boundaries to new heights.
Their previous album, Underneath, not only earned the band their second Grammy nomination but also secured its place on numerous year-end lists, including NPR, The New York Times, Billboard, Noisey, and Revolver. With The Above, they boldly swing for the fences, pushing their talents to the brink of innovation and beyond. The album transcends genres and expectations, effortlessly navigating from grunge-infused rock anthems to electronic soundscapes, occasionally diving headfirst into moments of exhilarating, chaotic energy.
Code Orange has long transcended the confines of scenes and genre boxes, and the new album stands as a monument to their relentless evolution, weaving a musical web broader and more intricate than ever before. The band's mission with The Above is not simply destruction; it's a necessary upheaval of preconceived notions to sow the seeds of new ideas. Code Orange embraces the role of sonic architects, fashioning a complex and multifaceted soundscape that defies categorization. As heavy and relentless as anything they’ve done, their new album is a leap forward, filled with unexpected twists and turns that only Code Orange can navigate.
Morgan, reflecting on the album, says, "We wanted the album to be able to wash over you with melody, aggression, and joy, but it was of equal importance that the closer you look, the more you are rewarded. We wanted the sound and even the recording process itself to reflect that edict, so we enlisted Steve Albini at Electrical Audio to get the most real and raw version of the band possible, even recording us all at once in a room together for the first time in our career."
To celebrate the album's release, Code Orange announced their inaugural music festival, CODE’S WORLD, which is serving as the hometown album release show. This epic festival will showcase hand-picked favorites of the band, featuring acts like Madball, E-Town Concrete, Vein.FM, 200 Stab Wounds, Pain Of Truth, and more.
