DJ Koze’s Music Can Hear Us is an odyssey through sound, bending space, genre, and perception into an electrified dreamscape featuring guests like Damon Albarn.
DJ Koze doesn't just make music, he crafts alternate realities. On his new album, Music Can Hear Us, the German producer launches listeners on a 65-minute voyage through space, zigzagging between sonic planets where collaborators like Damon Albarn, Soap&Skin, Sophia Kennedy, and the Notwist's Markus Acher wave from the ether. It’s a cosmic synapse rodeo, an electrified dreamscape that Koze calls “the most potent legal drug currently available.”
Stefan Kozalla, known as DJ Koze, has built a career out of defying convention. Born in Marrakech and raised in Germany, he first made waves in the ’90s hip-hop scene with Fischmob before pivoting to electronic music with International Pony. But it was as a solo artist that Koze found his true voice, fusing house, techno, and left-field pop into something uniquely his own. His 2013 album Amygdala blurred the lines between dancefloor euphoria and deep introspection, while 2018’s Knock Knock refined his kaleidoscopic approach, spawning the widely acclaimed single “Pick Up.”
Beyond his own records, Koze has earned a reputation as a master remixer, turning tracks by Moderat, Matthew Herbert, and Låpsley into club staples. His 2016 remix of “Operator” remains a standout, and his production work on Róisín Murphy’s 2023 album Hit Parade helped push her to new commercial heights. Last year’s Wespennest EP marked his long-awaited return to solo work, and now, Music Can Hear Us pushes even further into the unknown.
With Music Can Hear Us, DJ Koze delivers a wormhole. It’s unpredictable, immersive, and entirely in its own orbit.
