Eli Paperboy Reed - Sings Walkin' And Talkin' And Other Smash Hits! (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Eli "Paperboy" Reed celebrates two decades of soulful music with a newly remastered deluxe edition of his debut album, Sings Walkin' And Talkin' And Other Smash Hits!.

Eli "Paperboy" Reed's career thus far spans two vibrant decades marked by relentless dedication and unwavering passion for soulful sounds. As he celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Sings Walkin' And Talkin' And Other Smash Hits!, Reed reminisces from his Brooklyn apartment, reflecting on a career that has been anything but ordinary. "This reissue isn't just a celebration of where I started," Reed explains, "but a testament to the journey and evolution that brought me here." From the juke joints of Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the revered halls of Harvard University, Reed's musical pilgrimage weaves through influences of downhome blues, R&B, and gospel, crafting his distinctive soul-drenched sound.

The album, originally recorded in a basement studio in Allston, Massachusetts, captured Reed's raw talent and unyielding spirit during his early 20s. "I remember those days vividly," Reed muses, recalling how he busked on the bustling streets of Harvard Square, Cambridge, selling the self-released CD while honing his craft as a musician.

Now, with this newly remastered deluxe version, Reed invites listeners to rediscover the magic of his humble beginnings. The first disc preserves the original tracks from the mono analog tape recording, supplemented by four additional gems recorded on the same transformative day in 2004. The second disc offers a captivating live performance from WHRB radio at Harvard University in 2005, showcasing Reed's electrifying stage presence and soul-stirring vocals.

Reed's ascent from flower delivery driver to soul sensation was propelled by a fusion of talent and tenacity. His early collaborations with a diverse ensemble of musicians birthed a dynamic band that captured the essence of his soulful vision. The band's magnetic live performances garnered local acclaim, catching the ear of producer Ed Valauskas at Q Division Studios in Somerville, MA. With Valauskas behind the boards, Reed unleashed Roll With You in 2008, marking his debut of original compositions that resonated far beyond Boston's city limits. The album's success catapulted Reed onto international stages, from SXSW to festivals across five continents, solidifying his reputation as a powerhouse in the soul genre.

As with most artists with his staying power, Reed's career has been punctuated by highs and challenges alike. Following his major label debut with Capitol Records and subsequent releases, Reed pivoted back to his indie roots, forging a fruitful partnership with Yep Roc Records. Albums like My Way Home and 99 Cent Dreams showcased his maturing artistry, enriched by personal milestones like fatherhood and a deepening connection to his southern roots.

With his original bandmates by his side, Reed has embarked on a celebratory tour, revisiting the songs that sparked his remarkable journey and hinting at the exciting new chapters yet to unfold.
