Escuela Grind push the boundaries of extreme metal with their new album Dreams on Algorithms, blending raw grindcore intensity with clean vocals and a message of inclusivity that challenges the genre’s status quo.
New England extreme metal masters Escuela Grind unleash their highly anticipated new album, Dreams on Algorithms. Recorded at the iconic GodCity studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou, and mastered by Nick Townsend, known for his work with Dr. Dre and Betty Davis, the album is the follow-up to their 2022 debut Memory Theater, which gained critical acclaim, including praise from The New York Times ("an opus of extremity").
Taking a bold step, Escuela Grind isn’t content to stay within the grindcore mold. The album's lead track, “Turbulence,” introduces clean vocals alongside their signature raw intensity, marking a new chapter for the band. Vocalist Katerina Economou calls it a risk, but one inspired by their recent tours with legends like Napalm Death. “The clean singing may take some people off-guard,” Economou explains, “but we realized we wanted to bring that aspect into our music in a way that complements the chaos.”
This evolution isn’t just about sound, it's about amplifying their core message. Escuela Grind's mission is deeply rooted in promoting inclusivity and acceptance within extreme metal, a genre often plagued by gatekeeping. Economou takes that message to every stage they play, using her voice to connect with the underrepresented and push for a more open-minded scene.
Dreams on Algorithms is a powerful reflection of the band's journey thus far, a genre-defying blend of progressive extreme metal that shatters expectations while staying true to their vision. And as they gear up for a flurry of releases, tours, and festival appearances, Escuela Grind's new era is only just beginning.
