Falcon Trails bring it all back on Coming Home, reliving the magic of '70s rock while taking it into the future.
There are a lot of bands out there paying homage to the golden age of classic rock, but Falcon Trails still finds a way to stand out among them. Maybe it’s due to the parts that make up the whole. The three-piece band features the talents of Finnish composer and lyricist Mika Grönholm, U.K.-based vocalist Lee Small, and Finnish drummer and percussionist Tom Rask. Together, they channel the soul, funk, and rock vibes of the '70s, coming across with a tinge of nostalgia mixed with a youthful energy.
Their new album, Coming Home, takes listeners on a trip deep into the heart of vintage rock. Grönholm and Small share a deep connection through their influences, drawing from the greats of the era to shape the foundation of Falcon Trails. "It was the music we first heard as children, and it stayed in our hearts and minds forever," Grönholm reflects. "We heard and saw those big-time bands making their mark on our generation, and in our own way, we respect that spirit with our music. We take our hats off to those great acts such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Pink Floyd, and many others."
The songs on Coming Home were written and recorded between 2018 and 2019, finally reaching completion in 2024. Despite the delay, the material retains a timeless quality and captures the essence of its creators, maybe because its sound is rooted in the time of the all-time greats. Grönholm elaborates on their creative process, saying, "When we were writing the tracks for the album, I did rough vocal guide melodies. Then I sent those on to Lee, and he changes what he needs to suit him and his very soulful vocal style, lifting the songs and taking them to where I wanted them to be. Both of us having such a similar style and thinking makes the creative process very enjoyable and easy."
Coming Home is a salute to the never-ending love for classic rock and proof of the powerful connection that can come when musicians bond over the music they’ve always loved. As Falcon Trails sets sail on this nostalgic voyage with their modern-day vessel, they not only honor the past but also keep the classic sounds of rock alive for the future.
