Foster The People are back, and they’ve brought the heat with them on Paradise State Of Mind, on which they look to music’s past and use it to forge a path to the future.

The first taste of the new album, “Lost In Space,” was evidence the band’s highly anticipated return was on the horizon after a three-year hiatus, and it perfectly set the stage for the new album, Paradise State Of Mind. As a band that refuses to play things safe, the album digs deep into the rich musical history of the late '70s with the aim of bringing it into the here and now. And “Lost In Space” is just the beginning. Produced by Mark Foster and Isom Innis, the track is a ready-made summer anthem, blending the nostalgic vibes of disco with the modern sensibilities that have always defined Foster The People’s sound. The single was just a glimpse of what was to come, which is an album that’s as introspective as it is danceable.

Mark Foster, the band’s frontman and creative force, had a clear vision for this record. He’s not just revisiting the past; he’s reinterpreting it for a modern era fraught with its own challenges. “The late Seventies were a time when disco, funk, gospel, and jazz all collided,” Foster explains. “There was so much tension in the world, but music was this joyful act of defiance. That’s something I wanted to capture in Paradise State Of Mind - this idea of finding joy amid chaos.” The album artwork, a striking oil painting by Brooklyn-based artist Matt Hansel, complements his vision. The piece explores the concept of mental spaces, each one leading to another, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the human psyche. It’s an ambitious project that mirrors the band’s journey over the last decade, from the breakout success of “Pumped Up Kicks” to becoming much more than a one hit wonder.

Foster The People’s evolution has been nothing short of impressive. Their 2011 debut, Torches, was a kaleidoscopic burst of energy that topped charts and earned them Grammy nominations. Over the years, they’ve experimented with various sounds, from the anthemic rock of Supermodel to the electronic soul of Sacred Hearts Club. But with Paradise State Of Mind, they’re diving deeper than ever before, exploring a host of musical and emotional landscapes.
