Greg Lisher (Camper Van Bethoven and Monks Of Doom) redefines his sound on Underwater Detection Method, a bold debut album that blends keyboard-driven art rock with ambient and electronic influences.
Greg Lisher, renowned guitarist for Camper Van Beethoven and Monks of Doom, unveils his debut full-length album entitled Underwater Detection Method. This twelve-track instrumental offering offers a striking departure from his established sound, embracing a captivating blend of keyboard-driven art rock, library music, and modern electronic influences.
While Lisher is widely regarded for his guitar work, Underwater Detection Method marks a daring venture into uncharted territory. "I purposely stepped outside my comfort zone," he shares, hinting at the surprises that await longtime fans of his earlier bands. This album invites listeners to discover a fresh musical identity that may feel as though they’re encountering a new artist altogether.
Following the release of his guitar-focused project, 2020's Songs from the Imperial Garden, Lisher felt compelled to explore new horizons. His passion for synthesizers and keyboards, combined with inspiration from experimental visionaries like Brian Eno, culminated in an album that redefines his artistic voice. The result is an instrumental exploration rich with elements of ambient, dub, and progressive rock, striking a delicate balance between the melodic and the avant-garde.
The album is available on both black and clear vinyl, as well as a special edition CD in Independent Project Records’ signature oversized packaging. Each release features a striking five-color design with metallic ink, enhancing its visual appeal alongside its sonic depth.
With Underwater Detection Method, Greg Lisher invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and creative exploration, proving that even after nearly four decades in music, there’s always something new waiting to be unearthed.
