The Melvins' highly anticipated new album marks a departure from their previous work while solidifying their reputation as true innovators. With a blend of experimental sounds and heavy hitters, it stands as one of the band's most remarkable achievements yet.

Lead guitarist Buzz Osborne elaborates on the unconventional creative process behind the album: "The way we approached Tarantula Heart was different than any other Melvins’ album. Usually, we have the songs written BEFORE we start recording, but this time, I had Dale and Roy Mayorga [of Ministry] come in and play along with Steven and me to some riffs. Then, I took those sessions and figured out what parts would work and wrote new music to fit."

The album's distinctive sound is further enhanced by the incorporation of dual drum parts, with Mayorga adding HIS magic. Long-time Melvins drummer Dale Crover reflects on the collaboration, "We would discuss what we would do pattern-wise, then we’d just go for it! Improvising riffs and trading off on drum fills." Mayorga further testified, describing it as "one of the best recording experiences I’ve ever had." The album's tracks were born out of extensive hours spent refining drum tracks, resulting in fully developed songs that surprised even the band members themselves.

Additional contributions from We Are The Asteroid guitarist Gary Chester add a layer of eccentricity to the album, creating a truly unique sound. Osborne acknowledges Chester's influence, citing his "wildly creative brand of true Texas weirdness" as a valuable addition to the project.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences such as Miles Davis, the Melvins have crafted a musical masterpiece that defies categorization. Recorded, mixed, and produced by long-time collaborator Toshi Kasai, Tarantula Heart represents a significant milestone for the band.
