Swedish punk supergroup Midlife Crisis unleash 45 Turns 33, a definitive collection of their high-voltage, 1977-style punk anthems.
Sweden’s punk rock underground has a long history of rebellion, but few bands embody the spirit of ’77 punk quite like Midlife Crisis. A snarling, riff-heavy supergroup featuring some of the country’s most notorious rockers.
Formed in 2004, Midlife Crisis came together as a passion project between four longtime friends and veterans of Sweden’s rock scene: Urrke (Maryslim, Bizex-B), Dregen (Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters, Michael Monroe), Robban Eriksson (The Hellacopters, Strindbergs, Winnerbäck, Syl Sylvain), and Måns P Månsson (Crimson Shadows, Wrecks, Maggots). Each of them had earned their own legend, whether in garage punk, sleaze rock, or proto-hardcore, but at heart, they were still the kids who wore out their copies of the Damned, Dead Boys, and the Saints records.
What started as a fun studio session quickly turned into something more. The band kicked things off by recording three scathing covers of classic punk anthems, which they released on a now-rare vinyl EP. It was loud, it was fast, and it felt right. Over the years, they reconvened for more high-voltage recording sessions, putting out a total of four EPs, the latest hitting in 2018. Despite their members’ packed schedules, Midlife Crisis never faded away, their cult following only grew, with each release reinforcing their reputation as keepers of punk’s original flame.
Now, for the first time ever, all their music is being collected into one definitive release, 45 Turns 33, bringing their blistering take on old-school punk to digital platforms for the first time as well as CD and LP.
