Moby's Always Centered At Night celebrates the soulful weirdness of music and at the same time uplifts the next wave of singers like guests serpentwithfeet and Lady Blackbird.

On his new album, Always Centered At Night, Moby conjures up a collection of achingly beautiful, tender-yet-defiant songs. Working with a lineup of uniquely talented, soulfully aware vocalists, the album is a love letter to the unrestricted and enchanting music of late ‘70s and early ‘80s New York that shaped Moby as a musician. Moby gave his cohorts a simple yet liberating directive: “Please don’t write anything commercial. Let it be weird. Let it be personal. It doesn’t have to make sense.”

Always Centered At Night features some of the more exciting vocalists of our time, including serpentwithfeet on the breathless daydream “On Air,” jazzy soulstress Lady Blackbird on the haunting “Dark Days,” plus the astounding poet and activist Benjamin Zephaniah on “Where Is Your Pride?” Moby also showcases lesser-known artists, like Brie O’Banion on the Cream cover “We’re Going Wrong,” and Sheffield poet laureate Danaé Wellington on the powerful “Wild Flame.” Other captivating voices include Sudanese, Netherlands-based chanteuse Gaidaa, London-based Burundian royal refugee J.P. Bimeni, and Kingston-raised, London-based Aynzli Jones.

Even by Moby’s standards, Always Centered At Night stands out, with its 13 collaborations blending the familiar with the undiscovered. The deeply personal songs often blur the line between the personal and the political, showcasing a range of styles from the past 30 years of electronic music. From the trip-hoppy “We’re Going Wrong” to the broken beat, almost drum ‘n’ bass influenced “Medusa” and the Latin house vibes of “Feelings Come Undone,” Moby continues to color outside the lines of conventional sound.

Moby explains, “The goal for Always Centered At Night is to do something uncompromising - to make music that is emotional, atmospheric, and potentially beautiful. And what better use of this weird privilege I have than trying to foster creative expression that has uncompromising integrity?”

Moby, a self-professed collector of voices, has always been a connoisseur of the timbre and texture of human vocal chords, whether sampling artists like Bessie Jones or working with superstars like David Bowie. Always Centered At Night continues this tradition, giving a platform to rising voices while maintaining Moby’s unmistakable sound, dripping with glittery melodies and warm, hypnotic instrumentals. Moby reflects, "For the last 30 years, I've worked with amazing singers - everyone from David Bowie to Freddie Mercury. Always Centered at Night continues my love of collaborating but focuses on working with amazing singers who might not be as well-known."
