Nathaniel Rateliff once again demonstrates that he is a writer and performer of the highest order, who seems to be smack dab in the middle of what we all hope is an extended creative peak.
The Future showcases Nathaniel's unique observations of our world and people's ongoing struggle in learning how to better understand each other. The album was produced by Brad Cook and R.M.B., the latter being the production team of Nathaniel himself, Patrick Meese, and James Barone (Beach House). Other notable contributions came from Jenny Lewis and Jess Wolfe (Lucius), whom both added backing vocals to the stunning track, "What If I," and Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso) who sang on "Face Down In The Moment."
Message from Nathaniel: “After making And It’s Still Alright and having the band play with me on those live shows, our hope was by performing those songs it would ultimately change the way we all play together - that it would help us have more subtlety in our approach of making music together. So, even though we didn’t get to play a lot those shows, it did have an effect on us and how we play together. The question of the record is really ‘what is our future?’ I wrote this record from a place of hope. I believe the answer is the future is determined on how much we care about each other and my hope with this record is it will inspire people to be willing to understand each other better.”
