In stark contrast to the somber tones of her previous album, Pick Me Up Off The Floor, which echoed the darkness of the pandemic lockdown, Visions finds Norah Jones stepping into the light with producer and multi-instrumentalist Leon Michels of El Michels Affair by her side. Michels, known for his work with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Lee Fields & The Expressions, brings his signature soulful touch to the album, creating a dynamic backdrop for Jones' signature vocals. It’s a seamless blend of raw energy and soulful finesse, resulting in a sound that is both gritty and ethereal at the same time.

Reflecting on the creative process behind the new album, Jones shares, "The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep, and 'Running' was one of them where you're half asleep and kind of jolted awake." This sense of spontaneity and inspiration permeates the album, lending it an organic and unfiltered quality that’s both refreshing and rejuvinating.

From the infectious groove of "Running" to the soul-stirring balladry of "Wanting To Dance," each track on Visions is a showcase for Jones' versatility as an artist and her ability to navigate genres with ease. Backed by a stellar lineup of musicians including trumpeter Dave Guy, bassist Jesse Murphy, and drummers Brian Blade and Homer Steinweiss, Jones delivers the kind of tour de force performance we’ve almost come to take for granted.

"I like the rawness between me and Leon, the way it sounds kind of garage-y but also kind of soulful," Jones reflects. "Because that's where he's coming from, but also not overly perfected." Indeed, it is this rawness and authenticity that sets Visions apart, making it a welcome addition to Jones' discography.
