Parlor Greens’ In Green We Dream is the soulful sound of a group of guys with a shared love for vintage organ trio records who just got together but sound like they’ve been doing it for years.
Few projects have generated as much buzz and heat as Parlor Greens debut In Green We Dream when it comes to heavy instrumental music. They boast an impressive enough lineup: Tim Carman from GA-20 on drums, Jimmy James of the True Loves and Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio on guitar, and Adam Scone from Scone Cash Players and the Sugarman 3 on organ. Each member brings a wealth of experience, plus their distinct flair, to the table. This fresh organ trio is poised to make a significant impact as their individual talents are stellar in their own right, but together, they create a sum that is truly greater than the parts.
Adam Scone, often hailed as the most tasteful living organist, bends the organ to his will with masterful precision. A veteran of the soul revival scene, Scone has played on numerous Daptone recording sessions and learned from legends like Melvin Sparks and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Watching Scone play is witnessing a true master at work. Jimmy James, known for his funky approach, has performed globally with instrumental groups and his signature style is instantly recognizable, even to the most novice music fans. James' right hand is perhaps the most dangerous in all of soul music, bringing a distinct and infectious energy to every performance. Tim Carman is the undeniable backbone of the group as an expert in blues shuffles. While his background might seem an unlikely fit for the funky grooves of Parlor Greens, the album proves otherwise. Carman's steady, heavy pockets lay a solid foundation, making him an integral part of the trio.
Parlor Greens started as an idea between Carman and Colemine label boss Terry Cole, who shared a love for classic organ combo records from labels like Blue Note and Prestige. Cole suggested making an organ trio the first project at the label's new studio, Portage Lounge in Loveland, Ohio. Carman enlisted James and Scone, and the stage was set. The chemistry was instantaneous. Within the first ten minutes of plugging in, the trio wrote and recorded "West Memphis." Over the next three days, they created what you might call a soulful symphony, recording straight to tape. It felt as natural and fun as three old friends reuniting, even though it was their first time writing and performing together. The result, In Green We Dream, is pure magic. Featuring eleven tracks, including ten originals, the album is all killer, no filler. Recorded on a Tascam 388 tape machine, it’s mixed nice and dirty for the full experience.
