Pavlov's Dog, led by original frontman David Surkamp, celebrate 50 years of progressive rock experimentation with a limited-edition silver vinyl release of their monumental album, At The Sound of the Bell.
Pavlov's Dog, the band that defied convention and thrived on experimentation, has made an indelible mark on progressive rock. Fifty years after their groundbreaking debut, David Surkamp, the band’s lead vocalist and principal songwriter, remains the driving force behind their legacy. Though the St. Louis-born outfit has weathered lineup changes and years of silence, Surkamp's commitment to their unique sound has ensured that Pavlov's Dog still resonates with fans today.
While the band’s early years were marked by turbulence, most notably the departures of founding members Mike Safron and Siegfried Carver, many regard At The Sound of the Bell as their crowning achievement. Recorded at New York's iconic Record Plant Studios, the album features a star-studded lineup that includes Bill Bruford of Yes and King Crimson on drums, Elliot Randall of Steely Dan on bass, and saxophonists Andy Mackay of Roxy Music and Michael Brecker, whose work with Billy Cobham helped shape the jazz fusion movement. Their contributions are woven seamlessly into the band's mix of rock, classical, and folk influences, elevating the album to a place of enduring reverence.
Now, to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Pavlov's Dog is releasing a limited-edition 180-gram silver variant of At The Sound of the Bell, allowing a new generation of listeners to experience the magic that made the band legends in the first place.
