Phish are back with their 16th studio album, Evolve, continuing to expand their sound to reach new sonic plateaus. Produced by Vance Powell and Bryce Goggin, the album was recorded in the fall of 2023 at the band’s Vermont recording studio, The Barn. As always, Phish’s unique creative process shines through, with the album’s 13 tracks selected from arrangements that have been thoroughly marinated in the band’s dynamic live performances.
The album kicks off with its title track, "Evolve," which set the stage when released as a single in April. Fans will also be thrilled to find "A Wave Of Hope," a live favorite known for sparking some of Phish’s most soaring improvisations. Other tracks, like "Oblivion," continue to showcase the band's ability to blend tight songcraft with expansive, other-worldly jams. Phish's distinctive musical language is on full display throughout Evolve. The production is confident and taut, capturing the essence of their live energy, never an easy thing to do in a recording studio.
Visually, Evolve is just as compelling. The album cover and gatefold feature stunning paintings by Mehdi Ghadyanloo. And as always, vinyl lovers have much to celebrate, with the exclusive track “The Well” available only on the LP. In addition, the Phish Dry Goods store has three exclusive pressings of Evolve: the Crimson Robed edition on neon-pink/maroon vinyl, the Pillow Jets edition on transparent/blue vinyl, and the Eco-Onyx Gates 180g audiophile edition pressed on recycled eco-black vinyl. These unique editions are sure to be coveted by collectors and fans alike.
