Rex Orange County lays it on the line with The Alexander Technique, an album that feels like a diary, an intimate look into the mind of a person who’s confronting his past, present, and future with fearless honesty.

Rex Orange County is back, and this time, he's getting personal. With The Alexander Technique, Alex O’Connor dives deep into his early to mid-20s, giving fans his most confessional work to date. Produced by O’Connor himself alongside Teo Halm, Jim Reed, and with a key contribution from James Blake, the album is a sprawling, musically varied, and reflects years of creative exploration. Recorded at legendary studios like Abbey Road, Henson, and Black Rock, The Alexander Technique is an open book for the fans, one where he lets them in on what’s really going on.

The title, inspired by the therapeutic practice of treating back pain to address deeper health issues, is a fitting metaphor for the album’s rawness. What began as an exercise in shifting his perspective has evolved into a deeply personal work, one that strips his sound back to its core while retaining the lush orchestration that has become his signature. “The Alexander Technique is very much a look into my own brain and experiences over the last few years – it’s almost a diary,” Rex shares. And that vulnerability shines through in every track. Whether it’s the stripped-down R&B of “Look Me In The Eyes” with its balance of haunting introspection and delicate production, or the indie-folk influences that wind their way through the album, O’Connor is experimenting with new sounds and approaching them in new ways while remaining who he is at this core.

The Alexander Technique takes listeners on a real-time journey of growth, capturing all the growing pains that come with it. There’s a sense of evolution here, of an artist who’s been through the wringer and come out the other side more open-hearted and self-assured. “I’ve made a lot of love songs over the years, and I feel as though this is the first time I’m trying to make a project about everything in life. In my mind, it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to make.” From its skeletal mixture of stream-of-consciousness R&B and indie-folk to the orchestral lushness that has always set him apart, The Alexander Technique is a powerful statement of where he’s been and where he’s headed. It's the beginning of act two in Rex Orange County’s story, a chapter where nothing is off-limits and everything gets put on the table, no matter how painful or vulnerable that may be. And in doing so, he’s shown that sometimes, the best way to move forward is to look inward and embrace the raw, messy beauty of it all.
