With On The Ride Here, Sam Morrow invites us to come along with him on a ride that promises to leave a lasting impression long after the final notes fade away.
Sam Morrow has forged a unique path in modern American roots music, defying categorization and boundaries. With a blend of roadhouse rock & roll, blues-infused R&B, and country-imbued funky-tonk, Morrow has a sound and vision that’s unmistakably his own. His new album, On The Ride Here, serves as the pinnacle, so far, of this evolution. Produced by Eric Corne and featuring a stable of West Coast musicians, including bassist Ted Russell Kamp, keyboardist Sasha Smith, and drummers Matt Tecu and Butch Norton, the album pulsates with primal energy and raw sincerity. Morrow both stretches out and delivers his tightest record to date.
In discussing the album's themes, Morrow reflects on his journey to sobriety and the profound lessons learned along the way. "When I was first getting sober, somebody told me that I need to wake up early in the morning and tell myself I don't know shit, because that's the only way I'm gonna learn something new that day," he shares. "I think it's a simplified way of just taking your ego out of the situation. I still do that to this day. I try to remain mindful and present. I try to learn something I didn't know before. And with this album, I think I've learned what my sound is. I've learned to truly sound like myself."
Indeed, On The Ride Here is a showcase for Morrow's growth as an artist, a forward-thinking record that captures his sound better than ever before. Each track unfolds like a chapter in Morrow's journal, turning pages on themes of redemption, resilience, and self-discovery colored by his signature sonic palette. As Morrow continues to reinvent what Americana music is capable of, some things remain abundantly clear - his commitment to authenticity and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
