RCA Records, the original major label home of The King himself, releases the ELVIS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from the Baz Luhrmann film starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. Besides Elvis, the soundtrack features Doja Cat, Stevie Nicks, Chris Isaak, Jack White, Måneskin, Diplo, Yola, Tame Impala, Kasey Musgraves, and more.
This sensational soundtrack features Elvis’ extraordinary body of work spanning his entire career, while also celebrating his diverse musical influences and enduring impact on popular artists today.
The lead single from the soundtrack, Doja Cat’s “Vegas,” incorporates the Elvis classic “Hound Dog.” Doja debuted the single for the first time at Coachella this year, where she received high praise for her set. She also brought out acclaimed Gospel artist, the Shonka Dukureh, who plays Big Mama Thornton in the film and is on the soundtrack as well. Miss Dukureh, just 44, sadly passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2022. The 2022 Coachella line-up actually featured several of Luhrmann’s musical collaborators from the film, including Nashville-based country and soul artist, Yola, who portrays Sister Rosetta Tharpe. To play additional iconic musical artists in the film, Luhrmann cast model Alton Mason as Little Richard, and Austin, Texas native Gary Clark Jr. as Arthur Crudup.
ELVIS is an epic, big-screen spectacle from visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann that explores the life and music of Elvis Presley through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’ life, Priscilla Presley.
