Oslo, Norway's Sylvaine release their latest EP, Eg Er Framand, which invites listeners on a serene journey through the rich tapestry of Norwegian heritage.
Embracing folk tales and myths, Sylvaine's new EP, Eg Er Framand, offers a glimpse into the depths of the group's creative spirit, exploring the roots that anchor founder Katherine Shepard's artistry in an exquisite sonic realm.
The story of Kathrine Shepard begins in San Diego, California where she was born to a Norwegian mother and an American father. Shepard's early years were already marked by a blend of cultural influences before her family relocated to Norway when she was young. Embracing her heritage, Shepard's roots in both American and Norwegian traditions deeply informed her artistic vision.
A classically trained vocalist, Shepard's musical journey began when she was just a child, culminating in a bachelor's degree in musicology from the prestigious University of Oslo. Drawing from her extensive training and diverse cultural background, she began creating music that transcends borders and resonates with audiences on a profound level.
Forming Sylvaine in 2013, she took a name which is steeped in literary and natural inspiration. Inspired by the word "sylvan," meaning forest or woods, Shepard sought to encapsulate the ethereal beauty of nature in her music. Additionally, the project's moniker pays homage to French poet Paul Verlaine, infusing it with a sense of poetic mystique.
Twice nominated for Norwegian Grammy awards, Sylvaine's music serves as a conduit for Shepard's multifaceted identity, blending elements of classical, folk, and ambient music into a mesmerizing mosaic. With each composition, she invites listeners on a journey through lush forests and mythical landscapes to connect with the universal language of music.
