Boomerang is the electrifying new album from all-girl garage rock powerhouse the Darts. It plunges listeners into a raucous carnival of infectious hooks and empowering anthems that solidify their place among the elite of modern garage bands.
Unyielding in their pursuit of pure, unadulterated garage rock bliss, the Darts are back with a vengeance. Following the seismic impact of their last album, Snake Oil, the band unleashes Boomerang with all guns blazing. Pausing briefly from their whirlwind global tour, the Darts converged at Los Angeles' Station House Studio to collaborate with producer Mark Rains (known for his work with Hooveriii, Death Valley Girls, Hunx and His Punx), aiming to capture their unbridled rock essence.
Boomerang kicks off with the electrifying chords of "Hang Around," plunging listeners into a raucous garage party. Their unmistakable Farfisa organ infuses a carnivalesque energy while snarky gang vocals amplify the chaotic revelry. Led by Nicole Laurenne on vocals and Farfisa, Christina Nunez on bass and backup vocals, Meliza Jackson on guitars, and Mary Rose Gonzales on drums, the band's tight-knit synergy propels Boomerang into a realm of resilience and empowerment. Each track packs a visceral punch, immersing the audience in a whirlwind of infectious hooks and soaring riffs.
"Boomerang reflects the whirlwind journey post-Snake Oil, diving straight into another full-length album" shared Laurenne. "I can't stop writing songs! It's also a nod to the lyrics addressing toxic elements that persistently return despite efforts to expel them. This album is my manifesto of finding inner strength - to prioritize personal peace and health. It was tough cutting ties, but it led to embracing amazing new experiences. I've never felt stronger, and that power resonates through this record."
With Boomerang the Darts earn their place among the elite modern garage bands globally. Fierce, unapologetic, and utterly enthralling, the album showcases their unwavering passion and undeniable talent.
The Darts emerged in 2016, fueled by a mission to create electrifying all-girl garage rock noise, conquer the world, and revel in nightly slumber party vibes. In a whirlwind first six months, they self-produced two EPs and inked a deal with Dirty Water Records in the UK. The label released their debut full-length vinyl, Me.Ow, and soon after, the re-release of the first two EPs as The Darts. Their relentless spirit catapulted them across Europe and the US, sharing stages with the likes of the Living End, Billie Joe Armstrong's the Longshot, and more. Icons like Stephen King, Drew Carey, Fred Armisen, and punk legends Jello Biafra and Blag Dahlia soon took notice, often joining them on stage.
In 2018, the Darts signed with Biafra's influential Alternative Tentacles label, who released their third full-length record, I Like You But Not Like That. This milestone was marked by a coast-to-coast US tour with the Damned, alongside performances with Rancid and L7, while tracks of theirs found homes on TV shows like Peaky Blinders.
