The Lemon Twigs’ A Dream Is All We Know is another joyous collection of pop nuggets that pay homage to the sounds of yesteryear while existing firmly in the rock and roll of the here and now.
It seems like the Lemon Twigs have been on a mission since the release of their debut album, Do Hollywood, back in 2016 and its follow up, Go To School. Fronted by brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, they've been waving the torch of revivalism, determined to prove that the timeless sounds of the '60s and '70s still have a place in today's digital age. With friends like Foxygen and Drugdealer by their side, the Lemon Twigs have managed to again make a record with a contemporary narrative using old-school recording techniques.
While their previous album, Everything Harmony, featured a more acoustic approach, A Dream Is All We Know finds them returning to their electric guitar-centric roots. But no matter whether it’s more acoustic or electric, everything that makes the Lemon Twigs great is still there, an anthemic celebration of infectious hooks and unending energy. From lush string arrangements to thunderous rock anthems, the album feels like it spans decades of musical history. It's grandiose yet grounded, harnessed yet wild, a showcase for the brother’s versatility and vision. Despite still being in their twenties, the D'Addario brothers seem to possess a wisdom and songwriting ability honed over many decades, from the jangly 12-string guitars of lead single "My Golden Years" to the infectious harmonies that fill every track.
As they race against time to capture the essence of their golden years, the Lemon Twigs prove once again that dreams aren’t just fleeting illusions, they're the fuel that propels us forward, and higher. The brothers D'Addario want us to dream alongside them with A Dream Is All We Know and embrace the magic of rock and roll and all the possibilities it offers.
