Australian indie folk band the Paper Kites found a musical haven in a small Victorian town to create their intimate new album, At The Roadhouse.

The Paper Kites found inspiration in the small Victorian town of Campbells Creek, Australia for At The Roadhouse, where they turned an old roadside property into a venue, making it the backdrop for their new record. It was there the band discovered more than just a scenic locale; they found a clear vision.

During a month-long stay in Campbell's Creek, the band transformed an old diggers store into The Roadhouse. There, they teamed up with owner Alex Bennett, who had an analogue studio in a barn on the property. The band performed new music in the newly christened Roadhouse every Friday and Saturday night, relying solely on local word of mouth for a free and unannounced audience.

Joined by skilled multi-instrumentalists Matt Dixon, Hannah Cameron, and Chris Panousakis, the band played sets of new music in the red-lit building, fostering a sense of community and connection. Guitarist Dave Powys shared, “It's a kind of magic born from people connecting with music and friends.”

The 16-track album, captured by engineer Matt Redlich, reflects the energy and enchantment of these roadhouse performances, and follows their fifth studio album, 2011’s Roses, which featured collaborations with Julia Stone, Aoife O’Donovan, MARO, and more. At The Roadhouse captures the Paper Kites at their finest, showcasing their dedication and creative vision, and their ability to forge connections through music.
