Portland, Oregon's groundbreaking dance rock band, the Slants, bid farewell with The Band Plays On, featuring contributions from 14 former members and collaborators.

In their ultimate tribute to a journey marked by music and identity, the Slants are releasing their swan song, The Band Plays On, a poignant testament to their legacy. Formed in 2006 by bassist Simon Tam in Portland, Oregon, the band quickly carved out a niche as pioneers of what they call, "Chinatown dance rock," drawing inspiration from '80s icons like Depeche Mode and New Order, alongside modern influences such as the Killers and the Bravery.

Explaining the band's moniker, Tam reflected, "'The Slants' embodies our unique perspective as Asian Americans - it's about sharing our personal slant on life through music, a blend of personal narrative and cultural homage." This thematic thread weaves through their discography, culminating in their final album.

The Band Plays On shines a light on the Slants' evolution, blending new compositions with classics that resonate deeply with the band's journey. Featuring a constellation of 14 former members and guest artists, the album is being released as a limited edition vinyl LP, offering a nostalgic farewell to their devoted fanbase.

Joe X. Jiang, reflecting on the album's significance, remarked, "It's a culmination of Simon's and my own musical and activist journeys, amplified by collaborations with immensely talented Asian American artists nationwide. As we transitioned away from touring in 2019, our focus turned towards community-building and supporting marginalized artists - an ethos that defines both our music and our mission."

Tam added, "Stepping back from the relentless tour schedule just before the pandemic allowed us to refocus on our narrative - through my memoir and the canvas of our music. The Slants Foundation became a conduit for hundreds of Asian American artists, reshaping our artistic perspective and amplifying unheard voices."

The Band Plays On encapsulates the Slants' musical legacy and serves as a poignant reminder of their enduring impact on the cultural landscape. In their final bow, they leave behind a legacy etched in melody and meaning - their unwavering commitment to artistry, identity, and the enduring rhythm of change.
