The Vices confront change on Before It Might Be Gone with modern rock at its most human - flawed, fearless, and full of heart.

Change is inevitable, but the Vices make it sound damn good. With their latest album, Before It Might Be Gone, the Groningen-based alt-rockers dive deep into the messy, beautiful process of looking inward to come out the other side better. It’s an album that wrestles with transformation, the pull between who you were and who you’re trying to become.

Led by frontman Floris van Luijtelaar, the Vices mix jangly guitars and punchy rhythms with introspective wordplay. Alongside Simon Bleeker (bass), Jonathan Kruizenga (guitar/keys), and Mathijs Louwsma (drums), the band distills their diverse influences - think Arctic Monkeys swagger meets the Strokes' raw urgency - into something that’s undeniably their own.

At times Before It Might Be Gone feels very confessional while it embraces the excitement of reinvention while acknowledging the fear that comes with it. Every riff and lyric pulses with an emotional push-and-pull. It’s hope laced with hesitation, joy tinged with uncertainty. It’s this honesty that makes the Vices stand out from the pack.

The band’s name itself is a nod to embracing imperfections, and that ethos runs through the album. There’s an unfiltered energy to their sound, a refusal to polish away the rough edges. With Before It Might Be Gone, the Vices prove that while change may be inevitable, losing yourself in the music is the best way to find out who you really are.
