Thin Lizzy make a surprise return with Acoustic Sessions, an album that’s like a time capsule, a bridge connecting the past to the present.

Legendary rockers Thin Lizzy have done something no one saw coming… their first new album in over 40 years! Acoustic Sessions gives fans a stripped-down take on the band’s greatest moments, reimagining classics with a new intimacy that breathes new life into already timeless songs. This is no ordinary greatest-hits redux, because at the heart of Acoustic Sessions lies an extraordinary touch as previously unheard vocals from the late Phil Lynott are paired with fresh acoustic guitar arrangements by founding member Eric Bell. The result is a fantastic fusion of legacy and reinvention, a love letter to Thin Lizzy’s catalog of greatness.

The track list revisits material from the band’s Decca era, focusing on songs from their first three albums. Songs like “Dublin,” “Mama Nature Said,” “Eire,” and “Here I Go Again” are given a raw treatment that amps up their emotional core. “Whiskey In The Jar,” the breakout 1972 single that launched Thin Lizzy into the spotlight, takes center stage with Lynott’s unmistakable vocals now paired with Bell’s intricate new guitar work.

“This project has been a deeply personal journey,” Bell shared in a statement. “Revisiting these tracks brought back memories of how we built them from the ground up. Recording fresh acoustic parts felt like stepping into a time machine, working alongside Phil and Brian [Downey] once again.”

The album also marks a milestone for Bell, who hasn’t recorded with Thin Lizzy since 1973. His return, coupled with the original drum tracks from Brian Downey, brings out every nuance, giving these songs the respect they deserve. “Eire,” in particular, stands out and shows the band’s ability to add storytelling, not just lyrics, to the music. Bell recalled how the song’s original acoustic arrangement informed its final electric version back in 1971. Now, it has come full circle, showcasing the beauty of its stripped-down origins. For longtime fans, it’s a chance to hear the great Phil Lynott’s voice one more time, a gift that feels as heartfelt as it does bittersweet.
