Private Dancer is the album that changed everything for Tina Turner, and now it gets a well-deserved 40th anniversary deluxe version for the ages.

Forty years ago, Tina Turner made a comeback that few saw coming, and it turned into a revolution. Private Dancer, her 1984 breakout solo album, transformed her from a struggling artist into a global superstar. Now, the 40th anniversary edition of Private Dancer gives fans a front-row seat to history, packed with unreleased tracks, restored live performances, and a long-lost song pulled straight from Turner’s vault. Available in multiple formats - including a packed 5CD/Blu-ray set, 2CD, 1LP pearl vinyl, and a 1LP picture disc - this anniversary edition is a deep dive into the album that redefined Turner’s career and helped transform pop music itself.

The crown jewel of the release is the fully restored Private Dancer Tour show, filmed over two electrifying nights in March 1985 at Birmingham’s NEC. Directed by David Mallet, this 55-minute set captures Turner at her peak, delivering high-voltage moments alongside legends like David Bowie and Bryan Adams. The Blu-ray edition also features five remastered music videos, including a breathtaking 4K upgrade of “Private Dancer,” bringing new life to one of the most iconic videos of the early MTV days.

The package also includes the recently unearthed gem, “Hot For You Baby,” a track written by Australian singer John Paul Young and produced by John Carter. Originally recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, the song was lost in the archives, until now. It’s a rare glimpse into the creative sessions that shaped Private Dancer, adding another piece of the puzzle to the album’s already important legacy. And it's Tina in all her '80s glory!

When Private Dancer was originally released in 1984, it truly started a new chapter for Turner. The album soared to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, went five times Platinum, and turned her into a chart-topping, Grammy-winning powerhouse. “What’s Love Got to Do With It” became an instant classic, winning Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the Grammys, while “Better Be Good To Me” earned her yet another Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

Turner’s road to Private Dancer was anything but easy. After splitting from Ike Turner in the mid-’70s, she was left with nothing but her name and an indomitable will. She spent years grinding it out in Vegas lounges and television specials, waiting for her moment. That moment came in 1983, when a cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” unexpectedly reignited her career. A year later, Private Dancer launched that career into the music history books. This deluxe edition is a celebration of a woman who refused to be counted out, proving that true stars don’t fade. And the world is still singing along because of her.
