Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws & Outliers is a 21-track set including live gems from Rhiannon Giddens, Margo Price, John Prine, along with Wilco's cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity."

Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws & Outliers is a collection drawn from the rich tapestry of talent that has graced the Mountain Stage platform. Among the stellar lineup featured on the album are acclaimed artists such as Rhiannon Giddens, Margo Price, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Indigo Girls, Tyler Childers, and Birds of Chicago featuring Allison Russell, alongside many others. A tribute to the late David Bowie, the album's first track, a cover of "Space Oddity" by Wilco, serves as a fitting homage to the icon on what would have been his birthday.

Speaking on the significance of this endeavor, Wilco expressed both the honor and the challenge of interpreting Bowie's transcendent compositions. "As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements," they remarked. "We thank Mountain Stage for letting us give this song another home on Earth."

Founder and original host of Mountain Stage, Larry Groce, reflected on the essence of the show, emphasizing its unwavering dedication to showcasing extraordinary talent. "Mountain Stage has always been about our guests," Groce stated. "Our only purpose has been to showcase their incredible talent." With a nod to the collaboration with Oh Boy Records, Groce highlighted the timeless legacy of artists like John Prine, underscoring their influence on the musical landscape.

Jody Whelan of Oh Boy Records echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Mountain Stage's pivotal role in championing roots music for over four decades. "This record showcases some of the most legendary performances from the show’s history, but also looks to the future and highlights a new generation of performers we’ll be celebrating for the next 40 years," Whelan remarked. "Oh Boy Records is so honored to be part of sharing this continuing legacy."

Celebrating its 40th Anniversary season last year, Mountain Stage has solidified its status as a cornerstone of the music industry. As the second longest-running nationally distributed performance radio show, its impact reverberates through accolades from NPR's Here & Now, Relix, Pollstar, and Rolling Stone. Garden & Gun aptly praised the show's enduring legacy, affirming its role as a cultural touchstone in American roots music.

Since its inception in 1983, Mountain Stage has remained a beacon of musical discovery, featuring a diverse array of artists ranging from rising stars to seasoned legends. Broadcasting from the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, the show captivates audiences nationwide with its eclectic mix of genres, spanning from traditional roots to indie rock and beyond. With a storied history that includes iconic performances by luminaries such as R.E.M., Patti Smith, and Elvis Costello, Mountain Stage continues to captivate and inspire music lovers across the globe.
