On Pleasure, soulful rock duo Young Gun Silver Fox blend 1970s grooves, dreamy atmospheres, and infectious melodies to create a fresh, evolving sound that’s poised to expand their ever-growing fan base.
On their latest musical voyage, Andy Platts, dubbed the Young Gun, and Shawn Lee, known as the Silver Fox, continue to blaze a trail through soulful pop-rock. Together as Young Gun Silver Fox their journey began with a serendipitous meeting on MySpace, leading to a collaboration that has spanned four successful albums, starting with the homage to their London roots with 2015's West End Coast.
Their new album, Pleasure, marks a significant evolution for the duo. Departing from their usual studio separation, Lee journeyed to Platt's Norfolk-based studio, The Prairie, where they crafted half of the album together in person - a departure that injected new life into their creative process.
The album's lead single, "Stevie & Sly," pays homage to legends Stevie Wonder and Sly Stone, capturing the essence of 1970s groove with its thumping basslines, falsetto vocals, and funky guitar riffs. It set the tone for a record that effortlessly blends dreamy atmospheres with infectious melodies.
"Late Night Last Train," meanwhile, finds Platts navigating through a hazy, mid-tempo narrative, while Lee delivers a mesmerizing guitar solo. The song reflects their seamless musical chemistry, with melodies flowing effortlessly.
Drawing inspiration from iconic duos like Hall & Oates and the sophisticated stylings of Steely Dan, Young Gun Silver Fox explore themes of ambition and dreams in tracks like "Born to Dream" and "Burning Daylight," capturing both the whimsy and the depth of their musical storytelling.
Beyond their signature yacht rock sound, the pair expand upon their repertoire with tracks like "Stealing Time," evoking Marvin Gaye's emotive appeal, and "One Horse Race," which echoes the sun-kissed harmonies of the Beach Boys.
With a growing fanbase across the UK, Europe, and a successful US tour supporting the Black Pumas, Young Gun Silver Fox are carving their place as contemporary purveyors of soulful pop-rock. Their influence extends beyond their albums, with credits including producing hits for UK superstars Take That. As they continue to evolve, the new album will no doubt expand their fan base with its blend of nostalgia and innovation, proving that their musical journey is far from over.
